Jones February 2021

Dear Family and Friends,

We want to thank you all for your prayers and financial support these last few months. We hope you are all doing well!

These last few months, Jacob has been traveling to raise support. Our support level is at 95%. We are praising God for His goodness towards us.

During the months of November, December, and January, Jacob travelled to 4 states and had the opportunity to present at 6 churches. These churches were a huge blessing!
As the month of January ends, we are officially done with full time deputation! It was a fun and rewarding experience, but now it’s time to get to work.
Every Tuesday and Thursday evening, Jacob has been doing Bible studies through Facebook and our YouTube channel for the Cocopah Teens and the Quechan people. We have a few watching but pray that more will do so. Lydia has been writing letters, contacting people, and mailing out devotionals and Gospel materials to the Cocopah ladies. Please pray for several who have relapsed into substance abuse.
We are hoping and praying that the Reservations will reopen soon. There are a lot of Cocopah contacting us about church requesting that we pick them up for service. Unfortunately, we are not able to pick up anyone for church until the COVID-19 cases on the reservation go down. This has been heavy on our hearts. Please continue to pray with us that they will reopen soon!
Also, keep our new church plant (New Haven Baptist Church Quechan in Winterhaven, California) in your prayers!
We want to specifically thank everyone who gave towards our building fund! We were able to raise over $50,000 for the purchase of the building and repairs. Praise the Lord! In two weeks, we should own a building!!! We can’t wait to see how the Lord uses this new church to reach the lost for Jesus Christ!
While starting this new work, we will continue working with the Cocopah Teens and assisting Pastor Veldhuis as well as having a Sunday afternoon service for the New Haven church plant.
For the ones who do not support us, we would ask you to pray about doing so. For those who are unable to support, thank you for being our warriors in prayer!

God Bless!

Grammer January 2021

Dear Friends in Christ,
First- thank you to those who sent us cards, pictures and annual family letters over the past several weeks.  We don’t send out many Christmas cards due to the postage, but really appreciate those that send to us-especially the letters and pictures to keep us in touch.
We live at 7,000 ft. above sea level with a high mountain desert climate.  Our water supply relies much on the winter snows.  It is not unusual for things to be dry but the year 2020 was the driest on record.  Our summer rainy season (“monsoons”) were missing and we had little snow (occasional “dusting”), so we were really pleased when a snowstorm arrived this week-end!    The roads were bad enough that Sunday services were online only and they even cancelled school.  We are so thankful for a warm, dry home but can empathize with our reservation brothers and sisters that miss the face-to-face fellowship with other Believers.
We have seen an increase in visitors in our home.  It’s ironic to have them come, give us a big hug and then sit on the other side of the room and put on a face mask.  As we’ve mentioned before, our ministry is now more one-on-one than in public services.  However, opportunities for Sam to preach have been slowly increasing; once this month and 2 scheduled for March.  God is in control and we want to be ready to serve as He decides.  Pray
We have also had visitors that come to get leatherwork done.  We have several Bible verses on the walls and Sam looks for ways to talk to them about the Lord.  Sometimes they are glad to talk and other times, not so glad and even irritated. Some have opened their hearts to the Lord while others walk away, but we have been faithful and pray for the Holy Spirit do His work.
The hospitals and nursing homes are still closed.  This past year, one lady that Janet would visit, is now with the Lord while another Christian lady was moved into a home.  Phone calls are still an option, but often these ladies feel forgotten by family and friends and don’t understand the isolation.  Hopefully this ministry will open up once again soon. Pray
Some have inquired about the Thorne Bay radio station in Alaska.  Plans are being made for this summer with 2 and possibly 3 volunteer crews hoping to come.  Much progress was made this past summer on the main building and footers set for the extension which will house the kitchen and bathroom. (rooms needing plumbing)  Pray with us that travel will not be a problem for our work teams as well as safety and progress in the construction.
Please continue to pray with us regarding the electric situation.  It would be thousands of $/s for us to put in the electric poles ourselves and then it would be our personal responsibility to maintain and repair if there are any power outages. There are some other residents in the area that are trying to convince the power company that it would be profitable for them to bring in the electric lines but so far, no positive response.  The option is generators that are being used during construction.  The fuel costs limit how long they are used and will therefore limit broadcast hours.
We have also been asked how COVID is affecting us personally.  We are still healthy.  Thank you for the prayers.  We don’t want to be careless, but neither do we want to live our lives in fear.  How great to be able to trust God through all of this. Much of the sickness and deaths are located in the large city areas, as many people are in close contact with each other. However, the reservations are also heavily hit, especially the Navajo nation.  Their isolation seems to make them less resistant to viruses, colds, flues… and the strong family ties bring the diseases into their homes.  When water and electric are not available, they become even more vulnerable.  When you have to haul water, why do you want to wash your hands more frequently?
Thank you for your part in our ministry;  both  prayers and financial gifts.  You are a part of our ministry!
II Cor. 2:11 “Ye also helping together by prayer for us.”
In Christ,
Sam & Janet Grammer

Dear Friends In Christ,
Here is an update on the building project:
We have been able to raise $23,090! Praise the Lord!! We can see the Lord at work and we are excited! This week has been awesome! We have received over $14,000 from churches and individuals! We recently discovered that we will need to do some repairs to the building before we have a grand opening. We need to do a little bit of electrical work, some dry walling, and a few other things. The building inspector said there will be repairs that need to be done on the building, but over all it’s in great shape. Our first priority is to purchase the property. Every Saturday night, we will be giving an update on what has been given during the week and how close we are to our goal. Thank you all who have given financially and are praying for us!
Feel free to share this with your friends. Thank you!

Intro…
As some of you know, we are currently working with the Cocopah Native Americans. Our goal was to have a church started in Winterhaven, CA bordering the Quechan reservation in October 2020. We want to reach Winterhaven,CA and the Quechan reservation with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Winterhaven, CA and the reservation combined have a population of between 5,000 to 10,000. The Quechan Tribe are very traditional. The elemental Quechan beliefs involve a spiritual power derived from special dreams and a continuing interaction with souls of the dead. It is our job to introduce to them the true and living God.   Lord willing, our goal is to have the grand opening of New Haven Baptist Church on February 14, 2021. However, we do not have a location in which to meet. The building shown below is owned by an independent Church of Christ. In March of this year, I (Brother Jacob) was in Winterhaven looking at the cost of renting a building for the future church plant in the area. I came upon this church building and asked the members how much they would charge for us to rent it once a week. They said they are not interested in renting it out, but they were interested in selling the building to a church. In June, I asked if 60,000 would be a fair amount. They dropped the price to $40,000 and now they dropped the price to  $35,000. The Church of Christ only has 3 members at their church. We are asking churches to help us in purchasing this building. If 100 churches give $370 each, we would be able to raise the funds. If 200 churches give $185 each, we would be able to raise the funds. If you would like to give, you could make the check out to New Haven Baptist Church and send by mail: 513 East Country Club Drive Apt D, Yuma, AZ 85365 or through PayPal [email protected] We appreciate your prayers and your sacrificial giving!Sincerely,

Dear Friends, Family, and Prayer Partners,

Thank you for your prayer and financial support over the past year. Here in northern Arizona we rejoice in the Lord’s working among us! Amid on again off again reservation shut downs, many of our planned year-end ministries did go forward.

Brother Andy Gleiser ministered among us for a week of special meetings the first week of November. We are grateful that we were able to hold the meetings in person. The reservation was on lock down during Thanksgiving and the first three weeks of December. But just before we went on lockdown we were able to have our annual testimony and praise service. The challenges of the year made everyone much more aware of God’s presence all along.

Not knowing what the situation would be for Christmas, Steve planned a simple program for the preceding Sunday. Praise the Lord, we were able to come out of lockdown and meet face to face! Though our celebrations were more scaled down, we were again very aware of the great blessing it was to be together (in person) worshipping the Lord.

We were personally encouraged by a visit from our son, Micah, his wife, Rachael, and our newest grandson, Ray. Sherry had been able to help Rachael at their home in Fargo, ND, however, this was Steve and Molly’s first time to meet sweet baby Ray. Then, the week before Christmas, our son, Josh was able to come home for several days. This past semester he has been studying remotely in Texas while working for a political consulting firm. He is now back in Texas preparing to return to Pensacola for the spring semester. He has two more classes to finish up his degree. Lord willing, he will be marching in May!

As we finish another trip around the sun and begin another, our prayer for you is that you experience every blessing the Lord has planned for you, and trust you will rejoice with us for His marvelous work among us!

Dear Friends In Christ,
Here is an update on the building project:
We have been able to raise $9,280! Praise the Lord!! We can see the Lord at work and we are excited! This week, we were able to hire an independent building inspector to look at the building before we go further with our offer to purchase. He mentioned that the structure of the building is good, but that one part of the building needs another 4 ton AC unit and possibly some insulation. This means that a little work needs to get done before we have our grand opening. Our first priority is to purchase the property. Every Saturday night, we will be giving an update on what has been given during the week and how close we are to our goal. Thank you all who have given financially and are praying for us!

Grammer December 2020

Dear Friends in Christ,
This is about the time of the month that we send our monthly letters out (both by e-mail or postal service) but realize that many of you won’t get this until after Christmas.  Hopefully, your holidays were filled with joy; not just from all the extra activities and family gatherings, but because of the joy that comes when we recognize  & appreciate God’s precious gift to us!

Our annual family holidays are really during the Thanksgiving season and it was a treat to see so many of our family members (4 generations!).  What a blessing to see God working in the lives of the younger generations.  Many of them have gone on to Bible College and we pray for them to know just where God wants them to serve in His plan for their lives.   God is so faithful! Thank you for praying for us during our travels.
This past month, we were able to fill in for a missionary that had to be away for the week-end.  It is a small church that still meets in their home.  Because of the COVID scare, as well as the newness of the new church, no-one came for the morning service, but we had 9 children show up for the afternoon Children’s church.  We were thankful for the opportunity to minister again and praying the lock-downs and curfews will soon be lifted so Believers can once again enjoy the fellowship that they are now missing.  Please pray with us for this.
After 35 years of trying to get a Mt. Big Horn Sheep tag, Sam finally got one this year!!  The season began on Dec. 11 and he was able to hunt for one day.   The week-end of the 13th, he preached and the very next day, he was out hunting again and God provided a very nice ram.  We are thankful for a beautiful trophy and especially for the meat.  God always provides what we need and often more then we need!  This was truly an answer to prayer!

(Vince Lopez from Colorado, has hunted with Sam for many years and was a big help-especially when packing the meat out to the truck!!)
During our trip, we were able to visit in 2 churches that are planning on sending volunteer work teams next summer to work on the Thorne Bay radio station site.  Please continue to pray with us that electric will be available on the property by the time we are ready to begin broadcasting.  A generator is being used during the construction, but will limit broadcasting hours because of the cost of fuel.
{A young man from Flagstaff that worked with the team this summer in Alaska, just lost his father this past week.  Recovering from back surgery, blood clots caused a cardiac arrest and they were unable to resuscitate him. Please pray with us for the Carder family during this time.  Will is presently a sr. in high school and plans to attend Bible College this fall to prepare for ministry.}
Since the nursing homes have been closed to visitors, one of our Navajo ladies died (non-COVID related but rather age-related) and another was admitted to the hospital today after testing positive and exhibiting symptoms of COVID.  She can’t stay in the Home at present because of her symptoms, so they have had to take her to the hospital until she can test negative.  Sometimes, Janet is able to visit on the phone with them but some are hesitant to talk on the phone.  This is a trying time for all, but especially for those with mental deterioration that don’t understand that they are not being ignored, but restricted because of governmental regulations.  Pray for the elderly; both in our area, as well as those around you.  Stay in touch as you can and pray for them.
We are both doing well and no problems personally with this virus so far.  Thank you for each of you that have stayed in touch and are praying for us.
Pray as we have contact with Believers from the reservations, that we can encourage them to stay faithful and not become discouraged at this time.

II Cor. 2:11 “Ye also helping together by prayer for us.”
In Christ,
Sam & Janet Grammer

Veldhuis December 2020

Dear Family and Friends In Christ,

Through your prayers and the saving grace of our Lord’s Incarnation we were privileged to give the Gospel to families of the 7 Cocopah that passed away since our August letter and comfort believers with the assurance that “to be absent from the body [is] to be present with the Lord.” (II Corinthians 5:8)

P.T.L. at least five of the seven 29-84 year olds who went home had trusted Him as their Savior before passing unexpectedly from Covid-19 complications of pre-existing illnesses.

The exposure to the Gospel of our Tribal Chairwoman at several of these funerals was a paradoxical blessing, as she had kept all three reservations closed to any group meetings since May, 2020. PRAY our much more congenial relationship will be a stepping stone to Ms. Sherri’s conversion to Christ and the full reopening of the Cocopah Nation in God’s perfect timing.

She currently welcomes reservation-wide distribution of school and food packs, clothing, DVD messages and Bible activities, studies, and contests but limits in person services to Natives living in Yuma. How grateful we are for your enormous provisions for our 1,000 souls’ homebound needs and your enabling us to also livestream three weekly services to them and distant Cocopah!

Covid outbreaks here and in the Navajo Nation far away forced the cancellation of our annual November Native revival and further broadened our Christmas ministries here. Rather than bus large numbers to church meetings, we will take the Gospel to every receptive home through irresistible, individual Christmas gifts, fruit, and a beautiful prerecorded Christmas story.

The replayable story transitions powerfully into a clear explanation of the Gospel and an invitation to personally trust and receive God’s unspeakable gift as Savior. Only the Lord knows the untold cost of these recordings by a South Carolina supporter or the part your prayers and sacrifices will play in “delivering souls from the kingdom of darkness…into the kingdom of His dear son.” (Col. 1:15)

We humbly ask the One “that ministereth seed to the sow

Sept/Oct Prayer Letter

“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1

We are so please to report that after seven months, we were able to begin in-person services Sunday, October 11. We are currently using Zoom to broadcast the services as well. Sunday mornings we are seeing about 50 folks attending in-person split sessions with several other devices tuning in online. Since beginning in-person services, we’ve also had mens’ and ladies’ Bible studies. After a long Spring and Summer there is enthusiasm and optimism going forward. Praise the Lord!

New Family Addition!

Tuesday, Sept 22 we welcomed David “Ray” De Ford into the world. Six months after the Lord took Dad home to Glory, He gave our son, Micah, and his wife, Rachael, their first born son whom they named after Dad. Sherry was blessed to be in North Dakota two weeks for the birth.

After she returned home, Steve traveled to Washington state to be in a missions conference with the Orting Community Baptist Church. Introducing a new congregation to Hualapai Baptist Church and the ministry of IBIMI was another Fall high light.

For God’s Glory,

Grammer October-November 2020

Dear Friends in Christ,
In just the past couple of weeks, we have slowly seen some of the reservations opening up so that our missionaries and pastors can resume Sunday services.  However, the Navajo Reservation, which is closest to us, is still enforcing daily curfews and week-end lock-downs.  Between the curfews and lock-downs, the residents are free to travel to town for business and supplies.  Many of them stop by for saddle & leather work, counseling and just for a visit.  This has given us many opportunities to talk about our Lord and give the Gospel message.  Pray with us to use these opportunities and for the Holy Spirit to work in hearts, for He knows each need far better than we do.
We are still waiting for the Dine Bible Institute to begin classes once again.  Maybe in the spring semester…?  Pray with us.  We know the Lord’s timing isn’t always ours and we are trying to be patient.  We do still have contact with various students and they seem eager to get back to their studies.
We are both doing well and God has seen fit to keep us safe from the COVID virus so far.  We do try to be wise but still not let it dictate our lives.  Please continue to pray with us for good health.
This past week-end, Sam was able to preach at a local church here in Flagstaff as the pastor was away.  It was good to be used this way once again in spite of the present conditions.  We miss the opportunities to serve in this manner, but trusting God to use us as He sees best.
We plan to spend some time with our family in the east during the month of November for our annual family Thanksgiving gathering.  Pray with us for safety as we travel.  We look forward to this time each year with kids, grandkids and great-grandkids and thankful that God has given us this special time each year.  Notice that this letter is for both October and November as we travel.  We will try to catch up with you again in December, so don’t be concerned or feel forgotten next month.
Thank you so much for your faithful prayers and support.  God has met all our needs and we appreciate your willingness to be used by Him.

Dear Family and Friends:
“…His compassion fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness” Lamentations 3:22-23. I am thankful our God is full of compassion. Even when life is overwhelming, we can expect to begin a new day with a new measure of God’s compassion.

Although the last several months have been challenging for the church, we have seen adult attendance nearly double for all services. There are also a few children coming with their parent or grandparent. God is also allowing us other times to minister to these people. Please pray for

Grammar September 2020

Dear Friends in Christ,
The reservations are still shut down to non-residents.  Each tribe makes their own regulations, but generally, only outsiders delivering water, food and supplies are allowed access.  The Navajo reservation, which is the closest to us, has 84% of the state’s COVID cases.  This has caused them to impose curfews each night and “lock-downs” each week-end, discouraging even neighbors and family from visiting with each other. (To be caught outside your home during these hours could result in fines or jail time.)  Local pastors are prohibited from holding services among their people and Christians are missing the fellowship with each other and worshiping together.  Some are resorting to telephone and internet contacts, but still miss the personal contact of meeting together.

Once the curfews are lifted in the mornings, folks are free to leave the reservation and often come to Flagstaff for supplies and visits.  Though the Lord has restricted our former ministry with meetings, we still have frequent opportunities to witness and counsel on a personal individual basis as different ones stop by our home or call on the phone.  Our outreach methods may have changed, but God still is in control and accomplishing His purpose and we have seen God working in hearts during this stressful time.

Though we are presently unable to have classes at the Dine Bible Institute, the local pastor is considering the possibility of having classes via tele-conferencing .  We still have contact with some of last semester’s students and they seem eager to begin their studies once again.  Pray with us as decisions and plans are made.

The physical problem, that prohibited Sam from going to Alaska this summer, required a surgical procedure (out-patient) which was taken care of this month.  Recovery went well and the Dr. was pleased with the outcome.   Thank you for your prayers for us in our health, as well as our ministry.

Once again, please pray with us about the radio station project in Alaska.  Pray the building would be completed soon, so that the station can begin to broadcast.  Pray that we can get electric to the property at Thorne Bay, as the cost of generator power would limit air time.  Also pray with us for the right man to keep the station running once the station is ready for broadcasting.

We truly do appreciate you folks.  Your prayers are definitely a part of our ministry!  We also appreciate the financial support you send to help us continue.  Even in this difficult time for our country, you have been faithful-Thank you!!
