Lam. 3:22-23 “It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” For 365 days of 2019, God has been faithful! Since He is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we can expect His mercies and faithfulness for 2020. God is good!
The Dine Bible Institute in Tuba City began the spring semester this month on the 11th. Again, we are using the modular system with classes beginning at 9:00 A M until 4:00 P M with a break for lunch. When you live 1-2+ hours away, it is worth it. Pray they can stay focused for the long day (two 3 hr sessions is long for both teacher and students).
Janet still visits some elderly Christian ladies here in Flagstaff. She is able to visit in one home weekly, as the language isn’t a problem, but Helen goes along once a month to the other home. Some of the ladies have passed on, so there is presently only one that we visit at this second home. Phoebe is suffering from alzheimer’s but seems encouraged to just have visitors. Helen reads from her Navajo Bible and then a few hymns are sung from the Navajo hymnal. (Janet can sing in Navajo but not speak it.) Phoebe often joins in the singing from memory. She doesn’t read anymore, so needs someone to read the Scriptures to her.
We are making plans for the summer work on the Thorne Bay radio project in Alaska. Pray with us for the right men to help us this summer; for men with construction skills so it will be done right-as well as volunteers to help with the physical labor. It’s exciting to see God meet the needs and we are eager to see the station on the air.
The winter months are slower due to the cold and weather, so we use the time to catch up on tasks that get overlooked during the busier times of the year. The break is truly a blessing as we prepare for the busyness ahead. This includes annual appointments such as the Dr. and eye and ear check-ups. The reports are good. Thank you for your prayers. We desire to minister as long as God allows us to stay strong and healthy.

Remnants of food midst strewn trash greeted me one typical bus cleanup day with broken, stolen, or willfully defaced
interior vehicle components and sadly gave entrance to ungodly questions as to whether in fact we were wasting our lives
casting precious gospel pearls before swine (Matt. 7:6).
Two hours later, however, the resounding reproof of these thoughts silenced the adversary without a word by the
rearview mirror panorama of 3 to38 year old natives illumined by the glorious gospel of Christ or willing to be ridiculed for
considering it.
The challenges of befriending and reaching Cocopah souls of every age and locale are more than rivalled by our
gratitude for your enabling and our Lord’s grace in entrusting us with the eternal well being of spiritually destitute and
physically hungry individuals.
No update could adequately thank you for the unprecedented gifts behind virtual miracles in the desert this winter or
for your grace in forgiving our infrequent notes. Still you will gather how sacrificial and greatly appreciated they were
without mentioning a person or amount by contemplating the scope of provisions for:
● Fuel and gratuities for four Navajo evangelists and families in their 200-600 mile drives for our November 7-9,
2019 revival.
● Dealership electrical repairs after van headlights failed during youth night pickups.
● New batteries, tires, paint, lettering, and various repairs on a donated 66 passenger bus.
● Picking and distribution of dozens of Christmas fruit and gift bags through special services and otherwise
forbidden door to door visitation.
● Replace drums and airbrake lines and repair spring and airbrake systems of the 92 Bluebird bus.
● Cocopah youth ministry needs and gift packages for boarding school students and a young woman in rehab.
● Retaining wall materials, gravel,overhead door, and equipment for church storage garage project.
The Physical and spiritual demands of these and other incessant operational needs on top of ongoing ministries make
your prayers for strength, wisdom, safety, and helpers that much more critical. We so appreciate your remembering

December and January alcohol related deaths of Shirley (60+) and Tanessa (35) almost overwhelmed us with the
urgency of winning and discipling natives at all costs. Shirley was saved three years ago, but we are unsure of Tanessa
though she came to Bible clubs as a child and did Bible studies in jail. She also saw her 17 year old daughter Taliah
gloriously converted at camp last summer.
Your praises and petitions for current blessings and needs are thus as important and appreciated as your countless
sacrifices are.

Thank you to everyone who sent cards and gifts as well as our faithful supports throughout the year. As we reflect on the challenges and blessings of 2019 we are reminded that God works all things to our benefit according to His time. We eagerly await what He has for 2020.
November happenings: We began the month of November with our annual harvest dinner. Isaiah Nuno, assistant pastor of Northland Baptist, was our guest speaker. Many of our folks have known Isaiah since his days on staff at the Bill Rice Ranch West
Branch in Williams, AZ.
For our family, the really big event of the month or, more accurately the year, was our son Micah’s wedding. We all met up in Fargo, ND for a few busy, yet fun-filled days. Steve was honored to officiate the ceremony.
Another annual high-light was our testimony and praise service. We are always encouraged to hear how God has worked in lives of our folk over the past year!
December events: As usual the month of December was full of celebration. Each of our Sunday School classes had their parties, and our teens held an afterglow. Our church was asked back to carol and present a Christmas pageant for the community tree lighting. Both the ladies and mens groups enjoyed their respective Christmas parties. And our homeschool co-op sang for our elderly and a local nursing home before having their party. The church Christmas celebrations culminated in the children’s presentation of the Christmas program. Sherry worked with them for two months to put together a wonderful service.
Manny and his wife Abbie were able tovisit for the week before Christmas allowing us all to hear Manny preach again. Sherry and Abbie decorated cookies and the rest of us really enjoyed eating them! Then, on Christmas Eve, Molly, Josh, Sherry and Steve
took one of our Christian college graduates from the reservation and road the Polar Express. This has been on our bucket list for quite a while. And it didn’t disappoint!
Dear Praying Friends & Family, Merry Christmas! We trust you had a blessed time with your family and friends.
Family Gatherings: During Thanksgiving we spent time with Paul’s family in California with his family. For Christmas, Naomi’s parents drove from Wisconsin for a visit.
Blessings and Prayer Needs: We had a simple Christmas service this year. The children played bells, sang two specials, and quoted Isaiah 53:5-6. The theme of the program was “Wise Men still seek Him.” Our desire is that each one would truly seek the Lord Jesus above all else.
This past Sunday, we had 11 children in Junior Church! It seemed most were misbehaving and not listening during Naomi’s lesson on Joshua and Caleb. But, after the lesson they kept asking thoughtful questions on Heaven, Hell, salvation, and sin.
Alex wondered if he was really saved since he still does wrong things. After the service, Naomi talked to him about his salvation. He said he is saved so Naomi then explained forgiveness of sin and living for the Lord. Please pray that the children would have tender hearts to God’s truth.
Please pray for Martha, an elderly lady in the church. Her husband Carl just passed away. We were able to visit Carl in the hospital and pray with him shortly before he died. What a reminder to live for Jesus and knowing for sure where your loved ones will spend eternity.
Please pray for deliverance from the control of sin. Many of the people here are held in Satan’s grip. John (the man Paul had been helping with Scripture) came to church with his family. We were excited to see them all come but then saddened as they left a few minutes later when they couldn’t control their 4-year-old. Simon (Rachel’s son) has been coming and was showing interest in spiritual things. But this week he got together with his girl friend and after drinking was arrested for breaking his parole. Many of the children who come reveal they too are starting down the same path of destruction. Please pray that God would gain victory in hearts as we strive to proclaim the life-changing truths of the Word of God.

We want to thank everyone so much for their prayers and financial support these last few months! Thankfully, my family and I were able to travel together! We were able to present at churches in the states of New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, California and Louisiana. It’s been very busy these last few months. Thank you again for all your prayers. We have seen God meet with us at many of these meetings.
During the month of November, we had meetings in Arizona, Texas, and Louisiana.
On November 1st- 3rd, we got to attend a Mission’s conference in Catalina, AZ as a family. The people were very kind and generous. It was a fun and exciting conference! We thoroughly enjoyed it.
On November 7th- 9th, we had our annual Native revival at our church. We had Navajo preachers travel down from the Gallup, NM area to preach for us! It was a time for all of us to get our focus back on God. Living in this world, it’s easy to lose focus on our job as Christians. We had a great turn out! A few people came to church that normally do not come. Praise the Lord!
From November 9th- 25th, Jacob went alone to present at churches in Texas, Louisiana, and northern Arizona while Lydia and Samuel stayed behind due to the elevation where the meetings were held. Praise the Lord God protected Jacob on the road!
On November 29th, we had a teen bonfire at the church. We had pizza, drinks, & marshmallows to roast. Lydia told a Bible story and Bro. Jacob gave an application. We had 9 teenagers that attended this event. Everyone had a great time! Please, keep these teens in your prayers. These kids are raising themselves. Many of their parents are alcoholics! Some get beaten and most are neglected and left to fend for themselves. It is our job to show them the love of Christ!
During the month of December, we took a break from traveling and spend the month focusing on the Cocopah tribe. We did Bible clubs, individual discipleship, Teen class, and helped host a churchChristmas party. On December 5th, we had a Bible club and a few kids came to Brother Jacob and asked him if there really is a God. Brother Jacob explained that there is a God and He has a son who came to earth for us. He went through the Romans Road with them, but the kids said that they were not ready to pray yet. So, we are praying that they will understand salvation and come to know Christ. The kids that come to the Bible club love it and are faithful in attendance. Their excitement is such an encouragement to us!
On December 22nd, we had a Christmas party for the whole church! We had about 45 Cocopah people come. Pastor Veldhuis told the Christmas story and gave a invitation. After a meal, everyone who attended got a Christmas bag with candy, fruit, a toy, and a gospel tract. Everyone had a great time! It blessed our hearts to see these kids open these gifts because we know that a lot of these kids get nothing for Christmas.
In January, we presented at churches in New Mexico & California. On January 9th, we had a conference in Deming, NM and were greatly encouraged by our time there! On the 12th, Jacob was able to present the ministry in Temecula,CA. From the 19th-26th, we were able to present at 6 more churches throughout California. On 27th, our family came down with respiratory infections. Jacob drove back to Yuma to drop Lydia & Samuel off so they could recover. Lydia’s parents are watching over them while Jacob continues to meetings in Texas. Lydia and Samuel will rejoin him in 2 weeks. Please pray for our health to recover!

Currently, there are over 1.6 million Native Americans in the United States and 562 distinct, sovereign tribes. Many of these tribes struggle with substance abuse and poverty and have no Gospel witness. Please pray with us that God would help us plant churches and that He will send more laborers into the Native American field located right in our backyard.

“But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto.
My family and I hope you all had a great Christmas! God has been so good to our family. God has allowed us to have a son (Samuel) even though the doctors discouraged us from trying to have children, paid our bills, protected us on the road, and thanks to His goodness, has allowed us to reach 70% support! To God be the glory! This past year has been exciting and challenging for our family. I’m sure everyone has had their challenges in 2019, but God has helped all of us through these challenges. “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5 KJV
God has been so good to us! We need to show our thankfulness by serving Him through our local church.
Here are a few goals we have for 2020.
* Ending deputation before October.
* Begin assisting the Veldhuis family full time by October. We will be continuing Wednesday night teen class, and help with the maintenance of the property.
* Begin a Thursday night Bible study with the Quechan Tribe and the Winterheavan, CA residents when we complete deputation. The Quechan Tribe is located 30 minutes from the Cocopah Tribe and they are located right outside of Yuma, AZ. Winterhaven is a small town of 400 people. The kids in Winterhaven attend school with the Quechan school district so the people of Winterhaven are not frowned upon by the Quechan. The Quechan have a population of between 5,000- 10,000. They are very traditional in the Native way-even more so than the Cocopah people. The elemental Quechan beliefs involve a spiritual power derived from special dreams and a continuing interaction with souls of the dead. It is our job to introduce to them the true and living God. Keep us in your prayers as we go minister to them. Later down the road, we will be have Sunday service during the mid-day. When we do that, we will be calling the mission New Haven Baptist Church. In no way will we be leaving the Cocopah church to start the Quechan church. The Quechan church will be a ministry of the Cocopah church until it is self-supported. When the church is self supported, we will be praying for someone to pastor that church. I believe that churches should be producing other churches if they are able. When we get closer to the end of deputation, we will be sending letters and emails out to churches to let everyone know of our needs in beginning the Quechan church. Please keep us in your prayers as we begin the work. If you have any questions, feel free to email me back. “So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.” 1 Corinthians 3:7. God is the one who grows the church. We are just to follow His leading.

11 Corinthians 4:3 “But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:”
We have just returned from 3 weeks away from home. We left for our annual family get-together for Thanksgiving with our family. The table was set for 26 with 4 generations present, (2 were just over 2 months old). We stayed a week longer so we could be there for the wedding of a grand-daughter (the 7th grand-child to be married). It was great seeing the family once again and hearing how God has been working in their lives and using them. But after sleeping in 6 different beds, comfortable though they were, the one at home fits the best!
This Sat. is the final class for the Dine Bible Institute for this semester. The modular system was used this fall so that all the material was covered in 3 Saturdays, rather than 15 Sundays. This greatly reduced the travel for the students. It seems to be more acceptable to all, but we’ll see when tests are graded to assess how effective this method is.
While traveling, we visited with some men that have helped us in the past with the Thorne Bay project in Alaska. There is some interest about helping once again, either this summer or next. Please pray for workers, as well as finances as this project progresses. We’re getting eager to have the radio station on the air. God is in control and has a plan which includes the timing, so we rejoice as we watch the progress.
While we were away from home, 2 ft. of snow fell in Flagstaff. This is a blessing as our water supply is replenished with the winter snows and we had an extra dry summer this year. Between the snow and strong winds, some branches broke off around the house-but no real damage was done to our home. God has been good and protected our home over the years as we travel. He has also provided neighbors that watch while we are gone. This year, one lady brought in our mail and daily started a fire in the wood stove to keep pipes from freezing.
With the Christmas season upon us, we use the opportunity to share with others the Gospel message. Please pray with us as we share Gospel tracts with cards and Christmas goodies, that other Believers will remember what God has done for us and that the unsaved will realize their need for God’s gift of salvation.

We are sending this letter from Arizona to update you, our faithful praying friends and family, of the answers to prayer and the blessings in our life and ministry.
Since our last update letter we have based in Chandler attending the Chapel for services. David had one of the services due to Pastor Marshall being sick. It is always good to be in their services to worship and fellowship with those believers. Many of you who have visited the Chapel will remember Lela Jackson. She will be 87 in January and is faithful to every service that she is able to attend.
In October we moved to Bapchule on the church property for ten days. On October 12 we held a memorial service for Kathy Noyes, Becky’s sister that went home to be with the Lord August.
It was a joyous celebration of her life. She had lived on the church property working in the IBIMI office for about three years. Her four children from Washington, Colorado, and California were there as well as our sons and their families. It was an emotional time sharing happy as well as sad memories.
From the Chapel we moved to Williams, AZ. and attended the West Branch Advisory Board meeting. It was encouraging to see the strides West Branch is making in completing the facilities there. Many Indian young people have attended the camp and several saved because of this ministry. We enjoyed a round trip venture to the Grand Canyon one afternoon via the train from Williams provided by West Branch.
After returning to Williams we moved our home to Camp Verde and Living Waters Baptist Church to minister with Paul and Naomi Sondergaard while Pastor Gary and Beverly were traveling. It was a blessing to help in a morning service, a Wednesday prayer service and a Sunday evening service. Other opportunities there were helping in the children’s services.
While in Camp Verde we were grateful to have repair work done on our AC. It is cooler there, but over 100 degrees is still pretty warm without proper working air. The repairs also included work on the furnace. It was gratifying to find two very capable repairmen just three miles from the church where we had our home parked. The end of October we moved back to Chandler and have continued to attend the services at the Chapel.
November 14 we flew to Fargo, ND to attend our grandson Micah’s wedding to Rachael Holden. It was a beautiful wedding and was good to see Steve and Sherry and their family. We were blessed while there to stay in the home of Pastor Mike Felber and his wife Cindy. It was a great time of fellowshipping with them while in Fargo.
Back to home in Chandler on the 16th in time to celebrate our 59th wedding anniversary on the 19th. What blessed memories these years hold, including our three sons, two daughters-in -law, nine grandchildren, two grand son-in-laws, two grand daughters-in-law, and one great grandson, along with the 43 years the Lord has given us to serve Him in ministry. This summer we will have a wedding of another one of our granddaughters. We are so blessed!!
Praises: Good to be in our IBIMI churches for services and to be of assistance when needed Safety in travel Great annual IBIMI retreat and board meeting in Albuquerque including survey trip to a Pueblo reservation north of Albuquerque. The Lord’s continued guidance and blessings Successful cateract surgeries for both of us.
Requests: Opportunities to explain the need for more missionaries going to reservations. Pray with us for the Lord’s direction in whatever He chooses for us in the future. We are aware we won’t be able to travel as we do now for any great length of time.
We are planning through January 2020 – July 2020 should the Lord lead. Thanksgiving dinner and service Nov 24 at the Chapel Christmas programs in all our mission churches and Becky’s second cataract surgery Dec. 2.
Thank you for your continued support of this ministry. We can sense the prayers of God’s people as we serve among the Hualapai. The last two months have been very productive. Our teens participated in the AZ Regional Youth Conference early in September and came home with the single day second place trophy! While one of the other native works represented by IBIMI got first place in the summer long competition.
Hualapai Baptist Church held its biannual missions conference with ministries among American Indians and the Jews in Israel. Later we voted to take on two new missionaries. Following missions conference, five of our ladies packed up for an overnight trip to a ladies retreat hosted by a Navajo church ministry in eastern Arizona.
During the month of September we saw two decisions for assurance of salvation. October didn’t slow down with a full month of regular church activities and a few special events as well. Sherry taught a quilt class with 6 ladies attending. The event filled up so quickly that another quilt class has been scheduled for November. Steve was able to represent IBIMI during the missions conference at the Campus Church and Pensacola Christian College. While there he also was able to visit our son, Josh, who is a second semester Junior at PCC.
Pastor Irvinson Jones spoke in both services that last Sunday of the month. Brother Jones was the former pastor of Hualapai Baptist. The church was blessed by his ministry among us. His return was a reminder to us of God’s faithfulness to our dear congregation through the years. HBC recognized us during pastor appreciation month with a very nice gift. We love our church family so much and appreciate their love for us.
We were thrilled to see one youngster come to salvation this month. She has been faithful to church coming with the family that originally invited her.
In family news, Steve’s extended family met to celebrate the life of his late aunt who graduated to heaven earlier this year. Steve had not seen some of the family since before we were married 31 years ago. Despite the circumstances it was a pleasant reunion.

Dear Friends in Christ, As we mentioned last month, our schedule is quite busy through November. Each week-end, we are traveling to various reservations (Hopi, Navajo & Yavapai-Apache) for meetings and then we will be traveling back to spend Thanksgiving with our family and also a wedding of our grand-daughter, Emily. Our letters for the next couple of months won’t be as regular because of being on the road, so don’t feel that you have been forgotten if you don’t hear from us in Nov. Please do be praying for us as we travel and as Sam teaches and preaches. Janet is still visiting the elderly that are in Homes here in Flagstaff. Helen goes with her to translate into the Navajo language. It is difficult for Helen because of her personal physical challenges but she is a great help and wants to use her life to serve the Lord. Pray for them as they visit and encourage these women. As they were singing Navajo hymns, suddenly another voice joined in. When the song was finished, the lady clearly stated, “I am a full-blooded Navajo and I am a Christian!” How wonderful to hear such a strong declaration of belonging to Christ! She was invited to join us each time we visit. Due to a funeral of a Christian brother, the class for the Dine Bible Institute was postponed. The next class is scheduled for Nov 3. They are going to try “modular” classes this year to help those who have to travel a distance to class. These will be 6 hrs long, so Sam will need prayer for his voice to hold out and the students to be able to focus for this extended period of time. Sam was the speaker for their evangelistic services and it was good to see God once again working in hearts and using us. (One lady who lives down the highway a bit, had come to town for gas and heard about the meetings so joined us and came back the next day for more and is now planning on joining the Institute for more study.) Dear Family and Friends: “…My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 How we need the power of Christ in our home and church! But when we depend on our own strength, God’s power is missing. Jesus Christ must be preeminent!
We thank you for helping us bring these many needs to the throne of grace: Needs of Salvation: Please pray for Naomi’s grandpa, Frank Bird, who is 96. As far as we know, he has not accepted Christ as his Saviour. He has heard the Gospel many times. Pray that he would respond to God working in his heart.
Also, please pray for the children who come to Living Waters Baptist Church. Almost all of them come from broken, unsaved homes. Pray that they will turn to Christ. Please pray for wisdom as we teach the life-changing truth of the Gospel.
Needs of Health: Jack and Sharon, a couple who recently moved into the area have been coming regularly. Sharon’s daughter, husband, and two sweet little girls (Adelynn and Riley) visited several Sundays ago. Two weeks ago, the parents, Tyler and Danielle, were hit by a semi truck. Tyler is in a medically induced coma and on DNR (do not resuscitate). He will be taken off life support Thursday (Oct 17). Danielle is badly injured and in much pain. Thankfully, the girls (age 6 and 8) were not in the car. Please pray for healing, comfort, and God’s strength. One of the Native American ladies, Vida, has been having many healthy needs. Please pray for her and for her family who are unsaved and causing lots of stress.
Needs of Spiritual Growth: Please pray for John. A Native American man who made a profession of salvation earlier this summer. He came to church for the first time this past Sunday! Praise the Lord. He brought Jennifer and their two boys (Jonathon and Angel). Sadly, she did not stay in the service because the youngest boy would not listen. Paul has been challenging John with Bible truths. John expresses a disire to follow God. Please pray for Denny, a Native American lady. She stopped by our house a few days ago just to sit and talk with Naomi. Naomi encouraged her in the things of the Lord and prayed with her. We are not completely sure if she is saved but the door is open!

Dear Ones in Him,
We thank you for allowing us to be your missionaries to the Yavapai-Apache Nation. Recently Bob, a man from the Reservation, came to church with his two little girls, Sacred and Danai. The next week they were back and Bob’s little son, Robert was with them. It is a blessing to see a parent coming with their children, not just sending them on the church van. We are not sure where they are spiritually so we ask that you pray that their spiritual needs would be met.
Gary had two surgeries in September, one to repair a hernia and the other was to remove a spot on his upper arm. The surgeon felt it could be a melanoma and cut quite deep. We praise the Lord it proved to be benign, but he did say it was caused by exposure to the sun.
We have mentioned the deteriorating condition of the modular ceilings. Gary & Paul tore out the ceiling in two areas and found mold. After treating it and putting paneling on one of the openings, Paul then coated the roof again. But a few days later we received heavy rains and the water poured in again and the paneling began to bulge. We would so appreciate your continued prayers about the modular replacement.
This month we were privileged to have the Marty Roembke family with us to share their ministry with the Menominee Tribe in Wisconsin.
We would ask for your prayers concerning an extended trip we will be making in October. We were supposed to make this trip for our 50th wedding anniversay four years ago, but have not been able to work it out until now. The start of our trip will be to attend the wedding of our Grandson, Jake Tyson and his fiancee, Jessica, who will be married on October 12, in Conway, AR. We are excited for both of them and welcome Jessica into our family!
From there we will be doing some sight-seeing and attend Bev’s family reunion in Indiana. Please pray for Paul & Naomi as they carry the extra load while we are away. We are thankful for men who will be helping Paul with some of the preaching services during that time.
