Jones Oct 2022

Dear Family and Friends,

God has been working here on the Quechan Reservation and nearby areas over the last three months.

“O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, for His mercy endureth forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34

The month of August was a month of transition for us all at NHBC as we began holding Sunday evening services weekly. We are thankful for a core group that have begun to attend these services faithfully. They are a help in our desire to see new converts grow! We also were able to have a Baptism Sunday where 3 young people were baptized!

At the end of the month, we hosted a Teen Taco Night and Devotion time at our apartment. This allowed our Teens to get to know us and to just have fun playing games and fellowshipping.

On September 4th, we had the privilege of being officially sent out of True Light Baptist Church in Los Lunas, New Mexico. It’s an honor for us to represent our Lord and our new sending church!

On September 10th, we were able to attend West Branch Camp’s Youth Conference at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Phoenix, AZ. We had 12 Teens signed up to go, but as you all know,  the Devil is a master of distraction. On the day of the event, one teen attended and we rode up with Cocopah Bethel Baptist Church.

During the month of August, Lydia was able to host a Ladies’ Bible Study  about being a new creature in Christ. A small group of ladies attended and good fellowship was had.

Throughout the month, Bro. Jacob was on part time deputation in the states of New Mexico and Colorado. Each church he had the pleasure to visit was such a blessing!

While traveling in New Mexico, he was able to attend the Southwestern Baptist Camp Meeting hosted by Pastor Steven Sykes in Deming, New Mexico. God worked in his heart throughout the meeting and it was a time of refreshment.

We would like to thank Pastor Sykes for allowing him to present and give his testimony! He built friendships with several Pastors who banded together and gave us a substantial love offering just at the time it was needed.

All through September we had asked the church attendees to submit any questions they had in the offering bag. There were 11 questions submitted. On October 2nd during the evening service, we had an “Ask the Pastor Night” and Bro. Jacob answered these questions.

On October 7th, we took 8 Teens to play Miniature golf and had a time of devotion beforehand. October 9th, Bro. Jacob was also able to take one of the Teens who is called to preach with him to present at Pacific Baptist Church in Monterey Park, California.

On October 12, Bro. Jacob was able to present in Garfield, New Mexico. September 13th-15th, he was able to attend our annual IBIMI missions retreat in Bradford, Connecticut. Bro. Paul Hiscock, one of the board members, was the main speaker and took them to see several historical landmarks in Hymnology and history! One of these was Fanny Crosby’s home and gravesite- the well known hymn writer and poet. It was a great experience for all of the members to see and learn more about her!

From there, he was able to present in eastern Texas and Louisiana the following week. Both pastors were encouraging and helpful and he was able to learn a lot about the culture of Eastern Texas and Louisiana.

After that, we had one week to promote our Harvest Festival and Friend Sunday. We passed out hundreds of fliers and thankfully on Friend Sunday, we were able to see 5 visitors attend!

That night, we hosted our first Harvest Festival featuring outdoor games like a three legged race, caramel apples and other snacks, and bags of candy with Gospel Tracts and invitations to church. 25 people were in attendance and we were able to reconnect with sporadic attendees and welcome visitors as well! It was no small feat as Bro. Jacob and Lydia hosted, decorated, and made snacks, and games! Everyone had a great time and we pray this leads to more open doors.
