Psalm 68:19
March, Apr, May June update 2015

Dear Prayer Partners,

There is much to relate in this update in regards to answers to prayers, blessings and encouragement the Lord has given in the last months.

We had written in our last update that plans were being made to reroof the Baptist Indian Chapel as well as the new arbor. This has been completed in answer to your prayers as well as ours. Also at the same time this was being done the groups from Marshalltown, IA and Morristown, IN painted the entire building. It looks wonderful.

The week after the building was finished we left for a ten week trip which included attending our granddaughter Alyssa’s college graduation from Pensacola Christian College in Florida, on to Murfreesboro, Tennessee to see our grandson Micah attending the Bill Rice Ranch Institute. We then traveled to Shelby, North Carolina to visit Jon, Jackie and Nathan (great-grandson) Cook. After leaving there we traveled to Virginia and visited our supporting church in Hillsville. From there it was on to Ohio where we enjoyed a visit with Norma Daniels. For a number of years Norma and her husband Roy spent their winters working with the IBIMI missionaries on a variety of projects. From Ohio, we traveled to Indiana and spent the bulk of our time visiting all of our supporting churches and visiting some new ones. While in Indiana we were able to see another grandson, Manny as he is traveled with the Pensacola Proclaim team.

We praise the Lord for safety in the nearly 9000 miles we traveled. There were many opportunities to fellowship with family and friends we had not seen in several years. We are so grateful for the words of encouragement, acts of innumerable kindnesses and hospitality the entire trip.

While we were gone from home our friend, Pastor Steve Fox went home to be with the Lord June 12. We ask you to pray for his wife, Treasa as she adjusts to her service for the Lord in his absence.
We are settled back into our routine at home and have a good time all over again as we recall all the fellowship and laughter we enjoyed for the past ten weeks. We are making plans with Pastor Yazzie as the Baptist Indian Chapel will be hosting the annual IBIMI Mission Retreat scheduled for the first weekend in October. This is always a highlight of our ministry year when all the Mission families can come together for refreshment, rest and encouragement from God’s Word. Pray with us for wisdom in making this a special time for our missionaries.

Thank you to each church and individual we visited with this trip. Thank you for your continued financial partnership with us in the Native American harvest. A special thanks to Alma Wells and to the Brock families for allowing us to park our trailer in their yards.

In His love and ours, Dave and Becky DeFord

Baucom’s June 2015 Newsletter

May – June 2015

Dear Friends Of Tom & Elaine,

With excitement and encouragement we write this letter. We had told you about the three that were saved in our previous News Letter. Well, they have been excited about their salvation. We have a class called “Growing In Grace”. It is 13 weeks of lessons that are geared to new Christians. These folks can’t wait to get back on Sunday to get a new lesson.

Oh, we had a revival meeting here as well with one of my old school mates from Tabernacle, Greenville, S.C., Max Alderman. He kicked off the meeting on Sunday June 7th, with us baptizing 6 new converts all together. The following Sunday we gave them their certificates.

We also have another couple attending for about three months. Even though we are on an Indian Reservation, we welcome whosoever will. We always have non-natives visiting from off the Reservation. I don’t know what would happen if it got over balanced with non-natives. I guess nothing as most of our people had a non-native dad, granddad or grandmother back down the line somewhere.

Our health is not 100% up to par. My heart still gives me a bout ever so often. Can’t do the things I used to do with ease.

I also have had a terrible cough for about two months now. Doctor can’t seem to get at the cause. We tried all kinds of medication but not touching it. Becoming more concerned.

My eyes are getting better each day from the operation. They look almost normal on the outside, but still feels funny inside. Pray.

The school has pert near got down to a trickle. A faithful grandmother is doing the teaching. Elaine just keeps check on their progress and records.

We can’t travel as we once could due to the strain it puts on our bodies. It about a 14-16 hour trip down south just to get to the majority of the Churches that support us. If you would like Elaine & I to be with you one Sunday please let me know. We really would love to come. Maybe we could be in a nearby Church as well. Please call: 905-308-6734. ☺

Maybe you or some folks would like to visit us while on vacation this summer. We have a nice place for you to stay on the Reservation. The house we lived in for 25 years, until the trouble being a non-native living on the Reservation came up. We have the house ready for visitors. Just this past Sunday the song leader Mark and his family from Pastor Ed Partin’s Church in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. was in our service. We were so blessed to have this family mingling in amongst our folks. Our folks loved it.

Elaine & I want to say thank you for your friendship, trust, love, prayers and financial support.

Grammer’s July 2015 Update

Dear Friends in Christ,

Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”

A couple of weeks ago, we received word that one of our dear friends, Carl Filer, left this old world and is now with the Lord.  Carl and Esther have been behind us in prayer and support while we were still in Bible College preparing to serve the Lord in Arizona and have remained faithful all these years.  They had a dairy farm in New York and were an example of serving the Lord without the title of “pastor” or “missionary”, yet were in “full-time” service as they witnessed to neighbors and fellow farmers and lived a life that put God first in their decisions and activities.

This week, Heaven received another of God’s servants, Steve Fox.  Steve pastored an Indian church down in the Phoenix area and though he was not with our mission, he was a good friend with many of our missionaries and we feel the loss even as we rejoice.

Please pray for Steve’s wife, Treasa, as well as Carl’s wife, Esther, as these women face the changes  ahead and challenges of life alone after many years of marriage.  We are so thankful for these men and their faithful examples of serving our Lord.  For them, the work is over.  Pray for us to leave behind the same testimony of faithfulness.

We have been praying for a pastor for the First Baptist Church in Tuba City, as well as the Navajo Fellowship Baptist Church in Page.  The folks in Tuba City have voted on a man to come and he is to move in next month.  June 28 will be our last week-end of filling the pulpit for them before they have a full-time pastor once again.  Pray with us for other opportunities to preach and teach God’s Word.
The folks in Page are seriously considering a man at this time also, though we haven’t heard that he has formally accepted that position.  How exciting to watch God at work and see our prayers answered.  Thank you for praying with us.

We have submitted a materials list to a sawmill in Alaska and waiting to get a price list from them.  Pray with us for a reasonable cost and for the workers needed to continue building next summer.
This week, Daniel M. stopped by as he traveled home from Bible College for a visit before spending his summer working as a counselor at a Christian camp.   In his first letter to the church of  Thessalonica, Paul described them as his “crown of rejoicing” (2:19) because of their service to God.  What an encouragement to see God at work in Daniel’s life; a crown of rejoicing.
I Thes. 2:13 “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.”

This week, Janet fell over a garden hose and fractured one of her ankle bones.  Thankfully, no surgery is required but she is now wearing a “walking boot” and using a walker as she heals.  Please pray for her as she heals and as she is forced to slow down and do more sitting.

We do serve a mighty God who is able to change lives.  Thank you for your prayers and financial help so that we can be fellow-servants in this ministry.

In Christ,
Sam & Janet Grammer

March/April 2015 Letter from Baucom’s

March – April 2015

Dear Friends Of Tom & Elaine,

Finally, we are seeing green, green grass! It’s a welcomed smell of fresh cut grass. Beats the hound out of shoveling snow pert near every day for about 4-5 months!

We had told you about a Church in Arkansas that wanted to help us with our Church roof repair….well, we didn’t know they would take care of it completely!
Notice the pictures on the back….it looks wonderful. Praise the Lord!

Things have been happening this past quarter more than the average. Three professions of faith along with kind of almost record-breaking attendance of 41 for this time of the year.

This is kind of better than some months when it’s not been all that hot. In some of the off months where we hated to write due to not much happening, I’ve been discouraged, attendance has been off, sickness is widespread, children breaking our hearts, sun is not shining and it’s still cold, not too many people have called or wrote us a letter from the states….(maybe one or two). ☺

You know a lot of missionary letters you get are like the Wal-Mart settings. After the family shoot is over everybody puts their old work clothes back on and everybody goes back to the way they were. Smiles are put away and the march to the doldrums returns.

Really, it’s not that bad, Elaine & I are doing ok. It’s just sometimes we like to remind folks of how it is sometimes up here. But God is still so good. I wouldn’t trade places with any of you.

About those three that were saved; that’s what keeps us going. A husband and wife and another young man. I was sitting here and it dawned on me that all this happened right under my nose and I almost missed it. The roof completed and totally paid for, the record attendance of 41 this time of the year and three adults being saved, Glory To God!

I was thinking also how God continues to be sooooo good to us. We have never been looked after so well physically and medically as we have been here in Canada! I have had several serious surgeries with the last one just three weeks ago where my eyelids were lifted. Quite an ordeal. Our doctors and specialist here are so good to Elaine & I! We can’t understand why they take so much time and care for us, except that God puts it in their heart.

To our friends, family, Churches and Pastors, Elaine and I are so thankful for your love and trust. We count it an honor to represent you here among the native people of Six Nations Indian Reservation, Canada. Thank you for your love, prayers, trust and support.

Tommy & Elaine

Grammer’s Prayer Letter May 2015

May 2015

Dear Friends in Christ,

Greetings from Arizona.  Yes, we are home once again after 6 weeks on the road.  We knew we were getting close to home when we say road-side sales for “fry-bread” and “roasted pinions” rather than “maple syrup”. After over 6,500 miles, it is good to be home.
Thank you for your prayers as we traveled.  Mom’s memorial service went well and we believe God was honored as the message of salvation in Christ was clearly presented. It was also nice to see family again.

We were able to visit several churches before we had to head home.  If we missed  your church this trip, maybe next time?  We just didn’t have enough time to see everyone.  Most of the churches we visited are already supporting churches, but have taken on a new pastor.  We wanted to become acquainted with these new leaders that we’ve been praying for.  We are also thankful for a new church that has voted to take us on for a monthly support.

As many of you know, we did have engine problems as we traveled.  It was an unexpected expense but we are thankful that we were able to solve the problems before we headed back across country.  Thank you to those of you who helped us get that taken care of.
We found a good bit of interest in the Alaskan radio project and are praying about a group of men that are interested in helping out next summer in getting the building up.  Please continue to pray with us to have the experienced workers, as well as the needed finances for the materials.  One couple helped us with the blueprints and materials list that we think is going to be quite beneficial.  They told us that they had always dreamed of helping a mission building project and never thought that God would let them do just that while sitting in their own home.  Amazing how God can use what He has given to us when we have the desire to be used.

It didn’t take long before we were once again busy.  We got home Sat. night, and by Mon. morning we were asked to make 2 hospital visits.  Less than two weeks passed and we had 2 groups of visitors that we prepared meals for and then a funeral to attend.  Thank you for helping financially so that we can be available to minister to these people no matter what day or time.

This is the time of the year for graduations and our family has 2 high school graduations (Caleb Holton and Emily Carmichael) and 1 Bible School graduation (Nathan Carmichael) this month. In August, our grand-daughter, Hannah Holton will become Mrs. Jonathan Chick.  It’s exciting to see the next generation moving on and praying that God will be honored in their lives and homes.

We are very aware of how blessed we are by you folks as you give and pray on our behalf.

You are most appreciated, thank you.

Please let us know if you are getting a duplicate letter on your e-mail address so we can correct it.

In Christ,
Sam and Janet Grammer

Prayer Letter Steve and Sherry DeFord May 2015

SPRING 2015

1 Chronicles 16:4 And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, and to record, and to thank and praise the Lord God of Israel:

Dear Praying Friends,

Praise the Lord for His working among the American Indian people! We are continually blessed and humbled to be called to this work. Thank you for all you do in helping to sustain this ministry through your prayers and financial contributions.

This past month we were encouraged to see the church nearly full Resurrection Sunday morning. We had a sun-rise service and very nice breakfast at 6:00 AM. It was well attended, but then even more came back for the regular Sunday School hour and Morning Worship Service. We didn’t hit a new record this year, however, 85 were in attendance.

Two weeks later our youth leader, his wife, and seven teens went to Youth Conference in Lancaster, CA. Every year we pray for the Lord to use this event in the lives of our young people. This year two of the teens made decisions to be obedient Christians.

On April 25th, our ladies took a trip to Flagstaff for the annual Ladies’ Retreat that the Bill Rice Ranch West Branch hosts. This year Sherry was asked to be the guest speaker. The church van was full and a few of the ladies drove on their own. The theme was “Oh,the Depth of His riches.” Steve drove the van and got to see first hand what a great time the ladies have whenever they get together.

Your prayers for the ministries of the Hualapai Baptist Church and the Independent Baptist Indian Mission are greatly appreciated. And thank you again for your generous support of our family!

For God’s Glory,

The Steve De Ford family

May/June 2015 Veldhuis Prayer Letter

Dear Family and Friends in Christ,

Where we’ve grown accustomed to contending with thorns in the desert, we were shocked back to reality in the mission work by the deadly effects of thorns of worldliness on the Cocopah.

“…that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection” (Luke 8:14).

Opposition to gospel preaching was so brazen and fierce our final revival week that even the evangelist wondered if the time had come to “shake off the dust of our feet against them” and go to another tribe (Acts 13:51). Those who expressed themselves by not attending services chose the self-indulgent squandering of huge annual casino checks over the golden blessings of revival.

P.T.L. the substance abuse, seasonal sickness, imprisonments, new cars, “friends,” and apartments that sifted out many Natives pushed others back to the Lord! How thankful we are for the faithfulness of Autumn, Edward, Justice, Loren, Rickey, Toni, Tyrus and siblings to Bible clubs, studies and services after health and family crises and four weeks of back-to-back revival meetings.

The tribal death grip of Native pride, self-sufficiency, spiritism, substance abuse, and antagonism that confronts us daily makes each life giving conversion from the icy cold reservation tundra a true work of God. Every new birth and character transformation has become a miracle on the scope of “Aaron’s rod that budded” (Num. 17:8) to us.
Our Lord’s faithfulness to your prayers and enabling were the basis of joy unspeakable at the conversion of 62 year old Shirley, March 8, 2015. PRAY for this very frail lady’s health, growth, deliverance from alcoholism, and testimony to Mary and Millie, her unsaved peers.

Shirley’s neighbor, Cheryl, miraculously returned to church with two of her children and her boyfriend Stanford through our year’s work with Shirley. PRAY for others such as Alexis, Alyetha, Ashley, Belinda, Delsie, Jennifer, Jolie, Karen, Kayla, Kelsie, Lydia S., Roxanna, Valerye, and Wanda would be revived or genuinely saved through our May 23 ladies’ bake day and/or Bible studies.

THANK the Lord for the revival and stand of Jesse, Raul, James, and Jessica in our county and state prisons and the phenomenal growth of Ricky and Edward out of them. Their friend Kenny went the wrong way upon release, but by our Lord’s grace Ricky answered God’s call to preach! PRAY for Ricky and Toni’s health and marital well-being as well as for Edward’s employment needs as they begin their Christian service at the ages our first saved men passed away (forties and fifties).

PRAY for true conversion and/or consecration of nominal or lost adults and young people like both Andrews, both Angels, Cameron, Chauncey, Corey, Daren, Darnel, Ezequiel, Joe, Ralph, Thomas, Tim, Tyrus, and Victor through Bible Time, camp, and other summer ministries.

P.T.L. for the 2014 N.B.T. professions who still attend Bible club or Lydia’s Sunday School class! PRAY Benicio, Lilly, Justice, Loren, Marcus, Marriella, Molly, Tyler, Tylonna, and Tyrus will help us reach their many friends or relatives who moved or dropped out of church since last summer.

Lydia’s April lung function tests were far below normal though slightly improved over two years’ ago. Her Phoenix pulmonologist put her on an extremely low salt diet and three sessions of respiratory rehab per week prior to an upcoming heart catheterization June 2nd. Please PRAY the cath. will be uncomplicated and will disclose the status of her pulmonary hypertension clearly enough to show the best treatment plan.
Dawn’s meds are being changed and an unknown infection sought as possible contributors to her weakness and vasculitis flare. Your PRAYERS for her well-being are as appreciated as those for our Cocopah blessings or needs. You truly “strive together with us” (Romans 15:30) in this manner!

PRAISES:
· Richard and Mary-Francis Hastrich’s move to Yuma and assistance wherever needed.
· Return of Cheryl, Alyetha, Wanda, and others to church after long absences.
· Sufficient sacrificial Godsends to rebuild our 22 passenger bus and prepare our 66 passenger one for summer’s grueling schedule.
· Tires, heating, and A/C repairs for our most used van.
· Michael’s relief from back pain through cortisone shots and his unimaginably improved vision after cataract surgeries.

PETITIONS:
· Fruit in unreached or uncommitted ladies through their Bible study and Bake Day, May 23.
· True conversions and/or growth through Neighborhood Bible Time June 28-July 3 and
Native camp July 27-August 1.
· Very serious discipline problems at church with some foster children.
· Salvation of George, Joe, Arturo, Millie, Theodore, and other adults.

Your Servants In Christ,

Michael and Dawn Veldhuis

Grammer’s Feb 2015

Dear Friends in Christ,

We are sending this letter a couple of weeks late for a reason.  In mid-March, we will be driving back to the east coast for Sam’s mother’s memorial service. We also plan to visit a few of our supporting churches before returning to Arizona.  Since we will be on the road for a few weeks, the next letter that we send out will probably not be until the month of May.  We are hoping that the storms that have been hard on the east coast will have settled down and winter weather will not be a problem for the roads that we will be using.
Please do pray for us as we travel:

1-for safety
2-for good meetings
3- for Sam as he speaks at his mother’s service.

We were excited during the month of February to hear of an increase to our family!  On Feb 8, our 16th grandchild was born, Peter Charles Grammer (Parents-Sam and Amber).  Then 10 days later, on Feb 18, our second great-grandchild was born, Oliver Leonard Holton (Parents-Levi and Chelsea Holton/grandparents- our  daughter Faith& Andrew Holton).
We were also informed of a marriage being planned in August of one of our grand-daughters, but we’ll give her some time to share her own news before we give her name.  (I suspect that she has already done this, as she seems pretty excited about it.)

The past few weeks, we have found ourselves keeping quite busy.  We’ve had several visitors at the house.  While we were in Page, we were gone from our home so much that we had few visitors, but I think the news has gotten out that the Grammers are home again.

Sam has kept busy studying.  There have been many opportunities to preach and teach God’s Word, as well as help church leaders with counsel and encouragement.  The next couple of weeks, we will be helping a church that is presently without a pastor.  There seem to be more pulpits in need of pastors than men willing to fill them; men with serving hearts.  Pray with us that the Lord “will send more laborers into the harvest.” (Matt 9:37-38)
Plans are also being made for a trip to Alaska again this summer to make more progress on the building for the radio station.

Thank you for your prayers and Christmas gifts sent last month, along with your regular financial support.

In Christ,
Sam & Janet Grammer

P.S.- I’ve noticed that our e-mail provider has changed their format and our emails are being designated as “Century Link”.  I  have included our name in the subject line so that hopefully we won’t have our monthly up-dates deleted because you don’t recognize the sender.  I’ll try to do this regularly so that we can keep in touch with you without having to change providers, since our prayer cards are printed with this address – and to avoid having you make changes when you want to send messages to us.

Veldhuis January 2015

Dear Co-laborers in Christ,

Yuma’s third or fourth measurable rain of 2014 ushered in our nationally coveted winter temperatures in the seventies and assured the presence of Navajo evangelists from snow-covered northern Arizona at our November 3-5 revival meetings.

BLESS the Lord, each of you, and Heritage, Maranatha, and True Vine Baptist churches for the means and fruit of busing in capacity numbers of Cocopah for meals and convicting calls to true salvation and growth at each service. We saw no new converts but rejoice in the training of summer converts and the return to church of Wanda, George, and the Hayes, Stevens, and Thomas families through these meetings.

Dawn and Lydia further challenged unreached ladies and teen girls to salvation and growth through their Nov. 15th bake day and Bible study. These were also the goals of our Dec. 23 and 31st Christmas and New Year’s Eve services.

BLESS the Lord, each of you, and United Indian Missions near Phoenix for the citrus, gift packs, and winter clothes through which we got the gospel to the majority of our three reservations’ homes. Like the Athenians of Paul’s day blinded by the god of this world’s idolatry and superstition, “…some [Cocopah] mocked: and others said, we will hear thee again.” Through the grace of God and your prayers…“Howbeit, certain men clave unto him and believed…” (Acts 17:32-34)

Bible studies and sincere church participation are going well with Ashley, Darnell, Lydia S., Ricky, and others, though many are still unsaved or actually trying to scatter God’s flock.

Our most used vehicle for church meetings threw its’ rods right after the Nov. revival. This 1982 22-passenger bus was in good enough shape at 300,000 miles for Bro. Nam of Heritage Baptist to begin rebuilding it. THANKS for the gifts towards this huge project as well as the prayers that helped this brother get our 66-passenger bus home and repaired after breaking down on tribal land. PTL for enough drivers to shift passengers to our fifteen passenger vans and still have our Christmas service that night!

Inclement elements of Southwest Arizona Desert weather take a physical toll on us similar to that on vehicles and buildings. Dawn regained some strength through a stricter diet and more precise insulin dosages. PRAY however for a timely diagnosis of the tachycardia, skipped beats, and increased insulin needs which her doctors guess are due to an idiopathic infection or her vasculitis.

Lydia’s lung function tests worsened each of the last two years’ six month evaluations despite previously improved health in the desert as opposed to the mountains. PRAY her Phoenix pulmonologist will soon evaluate a new suspected cardiac component and halt the usual progression of pulmonary hypertension from oxygen support, to transplant, to respiratory failure and death. Lydia’s severe tachycardia simply feeding her dog or loading laundry illustrates why she’s made nonphysical ministries her primary mission contribution.

Silas, as a full-time Welding Department employee and student at our local junior college still picks up our third reservation route and helps with endless repairs. He and Lydia are praying about better career opportunities outside Yuma despite serving the Cocopah church as teachers, pianists, and ever-present monitors.

Their help getting out this update was delayed but not foiled by my last several months’ near inability to read or write as the result of the sudden growth of cataracts. Night driving is still safe but the haze of sunlight demands more prayer, assistance, or a substitute at other times.

Your PRAYERS for safe transportation to all ministries are as appreciated as they are for my eye surgeries Feb 12/’015 and March 9//’015. Treatment and further PRAYERS for the successful care of my July 2014 herniated disc and aggravated lumbar arthritis are enormous Godsends which will surely lead to His enabling (II Corinthians 9:8)

The prayers that brought salvation to forty year olds Nate and Marlin prior to their tragic deaths October and December, 2014 allowed us to comfort and give the gospel to their families despite pagan burial practices of others around them. GOD BLESS you for claiming the promise of His power through united prayer (Matthew 18:19) and praying with us for eternal life and growth through upcoming ministries rather than misery and death through the misuse of February’s annual casino checks.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

·      Ladies’ Tea Party and Bible Study, January 31.

·      Individual ladies, men’s, and jail Bible studies.

·      Lasting fruit through revival meetings at Heritage and Maranatha Baptist Churches Feb. 8-15 and March 31-April 4.

·      Our revival with Pastor Doyel of Emmanuel Baptist Mission March 22-25, 2015.

·      Salvation of Antonio, George, Millie, Shirley, and other adults.

·      Repentance and growth of both Angels, Daren, Jessica, Karen, Lori, Matthew, Roxanna, and the White and Alvanez children.

·      Obedience of true believers in baptism.

PRAISES:

·      Daren’s healing from a spinal infection.

·      Wisdom and provision for Christmas ministries beyond the enormous personal and vehicle needs.

·      Continued open doors reservation wide despite opposition by some individuals.

Gratefully Yours In Christ,

Michael, Dawn, Lydia and Silas

Hosea 14:9 Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.

We want to thank all our ministry friends for partnering with us this past year through your faithful prayers and support. God blessed throughout the year, but the last two months were a special blessing as we were able to join Manny and Micah in Pensacola for Thanksgiving. Micah then traveled home with us and Manny came later for their Christmas vacation. Both are doing well in college and appreciate your prayers for them as they return to school and start in with second semester.

Hualapai Baptist has also had a joyous and busy Holiday season. Our young people enjoyed college days at West Coast Baptist College back in November. While our men continued to make progress on our building get some much needed cement poured.

December was a flurry of activity with all the group Christmas parties. Ninety-five people attended our Christmas program. And for the first time our congregation when caroling around the Peach Springs community.

Our family offers many thanks for all the cards, gifts, and special Christmas wishes we received. May your New Year be filled with our dear Lord’s presence as you yield to His Spirit each day.

For God’s Glory-Steve De Ford

Jan 2015

Dear Friends in Christ,

A few months ago, Sam’s Mom  had to be moved from her home on a Maryland farm, into a nursing home.  She never really enjoyed this move and seemed to struggle with colds and various viruses that she was now exposed to.  On Jan. 10, she finished this earthly life and entered Heaven. She was 95.  Since she had accepted Christ’s gift of salvation, we can only rejoice with her.  The family is planning a memorial service after the weather warms up, so we won’t be traveling back during the winter months.
During the holidays, we receive many letters from friends that we only hear from once a year.  I’m sure you have found that true also.  We enjoy hearing from you and knowing how God has been working in your lives over the past year.  We have also had some share with us that they pray for us often; sometimes weekly and sometimes even daily.  What an encouragement that is to us.

We can’t always share the things we deal with.  We often are asked for help as people experience marital and family problems, health problems, legal problems, financial problems…  These are personal for others and we don’t feel free to share them. Yet they are also a challenge to us.  We are not doctors, lawyers, or economists- but want to give Biblical counsel in dealing with life’s situations.   We need your prayers that we give Godly wisdom and not personal opinion.  We also need prayer that we don’t become overwhelmed by other’s burdens but recognize that God is the One they need for their strength.  This may be what your own pastor is going through and he surely needs your prayers also.

Also, this month, we were encouraged as we listened to a young Navajo man give a presentation of his ministry among college students in the Ukraine.  This man’s family attended the church while we were in Tuba City, so we knew him when he was a child.  We look back and remember his mother accepting Christ and his father returning to the Lord.  What a difference is made in a home when God is put first!  His father is now preaching in a Reservation church that is without a full-time pastor.
It is very difficult for the Navajo people to leave the security of the Reservation, or to send their children to another country to serve for even short periods.  Chuck has married a Ukrainian woman and they have made a long-term commitment to serve in her homeland.  It warms our hearts to see this young couple starting their ministry, as well as two other young men, Jeremiah and Tim, who are on a short term mission trip to teens in Florida.  It is rewarding to know that we had a part by ministering to their families when they were just children.  We need the next generation to step up and be willing to serve our wonderful Saviour.

Thank you for your prayers and Christmas gifts sent last month, along with your regular financial support.

In Christ,
Sam & Janet Grammer

Dear Prayer Partners,

We want to thank each individual and church that sent cards and financial gifts this past Christmas. We appreciate each one that remembered us in this way.

Beginning last fall we have been working to secure a lease renewal for the Baptist Indian Chapel. Monday (Feb 2) we got the call from Pastor Yazzie telling us that indeed the lease has been renewed and for a period of 50 years. Thank you for your prayers for the lease renewal. We can see the Lord’s direction in the timing of the entire transaction.

In late January, Bud and Connie Wells along with Don and Leslie Otto and their adult son, Cameron came to demolish the rest of the burned out modular that was used for the school. Salvaged steel framing was then used to erect a frame for an arbor. Plans are to put a new metal roof on the church building as well as the arbor in April. Gene Absher will be overseeing this project. We could use some volunteer workers for the second week of April to help with this project. February 1 it was great to have Dr. Glen and Mary Jaspers ministering at BIC. They were with 4 of our Indian churches this winter.

Please keep the Baptist Indian Chapel family on your prayer list as well as the Yazzie family. We enjoy worshipping with them and pray the Lord will use the church as a bright light on the Gila River Reservation until He returns.
